Meet Brynn and Liam. Here is a duo that will give all the heart eyes. Liam is a giant, happy soul in a tiny body and to know him is to absolutely love him. Brynn's genuine love for her son is evident. She is Liam's biggest fan and advocate and will stop at nothing to help her children succeed. Brynn's involvement with the United Angels Foundation has blessed her with the support, friendship, and education she needs to help her on her incredible adventure with her little Liam. Here, Brynn tells us a little more about life with Liam.
LB: The Lulu Bella Project was inspired by Grandma Lulu's legacy. What kind of Legacy do you hope to leave?
Brynn: I would love to leave the legacy that I want to be the best advocate I can be for my children. I am an educator and I didn't realize how much my experience has been and will be helpful with my children. I have one child with a learning disability and one with Down syndrome and I have tried to use my experience and expertise to help them to be successful.
LB: How long have you been involved with the United Angels Foundation and what inspired you to be a part of it?
Brynn: I've been with United Angels Foundation for over 3 years. When Liam was first born, I had a friend whose child struggled with severe allergies and had learned that having a support group got her through her tough days, so she encouraged me to get involved in a support group. I looked online and found the United Angels Foundation. I was impressed with them being local and after I signed up, I immediately got a phone call from them and had one of their directors, Jill, come and visit me. She encouraged me to come to Mom's Night Out, where I met Kassie Moen who also has a little boy around Liam's age who has Down syndrome. What a blessing it has been to be in contact with her and other moms who have now become my closest friends who really understand the good days and the bad. I love the fun activities it provides for my other children. I know Liam takes up more time and attention and I love that this foundation sees that and tries to create meaningful activities for the whole family. They also provide really great training for me to learn and help me to be a better advocate for Liam and my other children.
LB: If you could only tell us ONE thing about yourself what would that be?
Brynn: I love music and play the piano and violin.
LB: Finish this sentence, "More than anything else I want....."
Brynn: for all my children to have successful, happy lives.
LB: What is the single most significant accomplishment of your life so far?
Brynn: Being a mom.
LB: What is something people might be surprised to know about you?
Brynn: I have performed in Carnegie Hall in New York City.
LB: How can people get involved/support your cause?
Brynn: Share, share, share! Share with others that individuals with Down syndrome are an amazing adventure. When Liam was first born I was scared, I didn't know what to expect. I wish I would have known that having a child with special needs is amazing! I also want people to help share that individuals with special needs want to be included with their peers. We are just starting to enter the school phase, and I'm learning that this is a very divided issue. Districts still want to push kids in their own specialized classes, and studies show that inclusion is actually better for our kids to learn. They need to be in the same classes, play with them at recess, and be involved with their peers.
They can also donate to the United Angels Foundation. This helps provide activities and training for our families.
LB: It's a Friday night, what are you doing?
Brynn: Watching TV or a movie with my husband. Yes, we live a wild life! My husband and I work opposite schedules so our weekends are our days to relax and be with each other.
LB: We love fashion. What is the craziest thing in your closet?
Brynn: I have Minion pajamas. We call Liam our little Minion, so one Halloween he was a Minion and so was I.
LB: What's the oldest thing in your closet and why is it still there?
Brynn: Black dress, my concert dress I wore when I performed. Someday I'll perform again.
LB: Using only 3 words- describe your life.
Brynn: busy, learning, lively
Thank you, Brynn, for taking the time to share your story and for giving us the opportunity to be touched by your little angel, Liam.
