When Case was born, the doctor put him on my chest and immediately I thought that he didn’t look like how I had anticipated he would look. For the first few moments after his birth, the only words that came to mind were “Down Syndrome”. I mustered the courage to ask the nurse if he looked like he had Down Syndrome, and zoned out everything else after she said yes.
The last year and a half have taught me more than I could have ever imagined. Case’s surprise birth diagnosis has proven to be the greatest thing in our life that we didn’t know we were missing out on. He’s everything and then some. He’s more than I could have ever anticipated, and I can honestly say I wouldn’t have chosen anyone else for our family.
